This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person registration fee. . NO MOSQUITOS in early May!!! Camp Thursday night in the Rangely town park where they have showers. Aiming to pick from 2-3 put-ins that would set the trip length in the 40 to 60 mile range; choice is dependent on vehicles' clearance and group desires. Plan to do a great hike to the top of Goblin City. This remote river has beautiful rock formations and howling coyotes. Details of the 2003 RMCC trip are at http://home.mesastate.edu/~jerry/guide/white/Trip5-23-03/RMCC-trip.htm |

We will meet at the put-in at 11:30am Friday, so can drive to Saratoga that morning. This river flows through bluffs, has blue ribbon trout status (need a WY license to fish) and cemetery/signatures from an Overland Trail crossing. The only difficult spot on it is a 3-way split at a diversion dam, and we will scout it. Limit 10 people. ACA membership OR $5 for insurance will be needed. |

few bushwack portages, lining, route finding, and some rapids. Teenagers all right.
Dates (approximate) Last week of July through first week in August (we never plan exact dates till 2-3 weeks away from trip)..
Rating class II: EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person registration fee and helmets for all Class II sections and above. |

Class II+ pool drop rapids on day 1; Class III rapid (Red Creek) Day 2. Please contact the trip leader for additional details and provide information about your experience if you are new to our club or new to this level of river. NOTE: The trip leader may be unable to respond to your emails promptly between roughly August 8 and August 17, so please be patient. Sept 26-27 |
Ruby-Horsethief Canyon, Colorado River, CO & UT |
Bill Ashworth |
720-352-6456 |
Class I (with one Class II section) |
This is family-friendly trip through a spectacular 25 mile canyon section of the Colorado in western Colorado/eastern Utah. This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person registration fee. Since we'll be following ACA guidelines and there is a Class II section of turbulent water near Black Rocks, helmets will be required for that portion of the trip.
We'll be meeting at the Loma boat ramp (see the links below for directions and descriptions of all the locations mentioned here) at 8:00am and run the shuttle to Westwater. We're hoping to camp around the mouth of Mee Canyon (roughly halfway down) early enough on Saturday to avoid afternoon winds and allow canyon hiking and exploration. We'll be off the river early on Sunday for the drive back to the Denver area. Carpooling, partner-matching, and group camping Friday night are possible but contact me as soon so we can make this happen.
