Karen Amundson

303-734-9823

Class I+

We will meet at the put-in at 11:30am Friday, so can drive to Saratoga that morning.  This river flows through bluffs, has blue ribbon trout status (need a WY license to fish) and cemetery/signatures from an Overland Trail crossing.  The only difficult spot on it is a 3-way split at a diversion dam, and we will scout it.  Limit 10 people.  ACA membership OR $5 for insurance will be needed.

85 mile 8 day/7 night trip with 1 or 2 layover days. Approximate cost $60/person for BLM and Indian permits and camping and an approximately $150/vehicle shuttle cost. Desired group size 6-10 paddlers. This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person registration fee and helmets for all Class II sections and above.  This description in the Southwest Paddlers website, which perhaps not completely accurate, offers good insight into the hazards and special considerations for the trip.

July 18-23

Yampa River, CO & UT

Karen Amundson

 Class III+

This is low water season on the Yampa in Dinosaur National Park, but where it meets the Green River we will have over 1000cfs for the last 2+ days.  The canyons are beautiful and wildlife is abundant.  We are trying to get the extension for a 6th day (not guaranteed).  Permit fee will cost about $16/person, along with car shuttle costs and $5 to cover ACA insurance (waived if you are an ACA member).

Last week of July to first week of Aug

 Northern Saskatchewan

Jim and Karen Baker-Jarvis

 303-823-5532

established canoe route, with a few hell-hole portages, swamp wades assured.  We currently have

2 canoes and looking for either 1 or 2 more.  Fairly rigorous type trip with around 25 portages with a

few bushwack portages, lining, route finding, and some rapids.  Teenagers all right.

Dates (approximate) Last week of July through first week in August  (we never plan exact dates till 2-3 weeks away from trip)..

ledLabor Day Weekend

Sept 5-7

Flaming Gorge, Green River UT,CO

Jeanne Willson

720-228-4128 (work)

 Class II/III

The trip will run from the base of the dam/spillway to the Swallow Canyon takeout, 27 miles. The long shuttle Saturday morning and long drive home Monday afternoon still leave time to enjoy several opportunities for trout fishing as well as exploring of Jarvie Ranch.  Class II+ pool drop rapids on day 1; Class III rapid (Red Creek) Day 2. Please contact the trip leader for additional details and provide information about your experience if you are new to our club or new to this level of river. NOTE: The trip leader may be unable to respond to your emails promptly between roughly August 8 and August 17, so please be patient. This is an official club trip so waivers and ACA membership (annual or daily) are required.

Sept 26-27

Ruby-Horsethief Canyon, Colorado River, CO & UT

Bill Ashworth

720-352-6456

Class I (with one Class II section)

This is family-friendly trip through a spectacular 25 mile canyon section of the Colorado in western Colorado/eastern Utah.  This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person registration fee. Since we'll be following ACA guidelines and there is a Class II section of turbulent water near Black Rocks, helmets will be required for that portion of the trip.

We'll be meeting at the Loma boat ramp (see the links below for directions and descriptions of all the locations mentioned here) at 8:00am and run the shuttle to Westwater. We're hoping to camp around the mouth of Mee Canyon (roughly halfway down) early enough on Saturday to avoid afternoon winds and allow canyon hiking and exploration.  We'll be off the river early on Sunday for the drive back to the Denver area.  Carpooling, partner-matching, and group camping Friday night are possible but contact me as soon so we can make this happen.
